VANDERBIJLPARK - The Vanderbijlpark SAPS is investigating the tragic death of a five-year-old child from Bophelong Ext 18, who passed away after consuming snacks suspected to be expired or substandard. According to Vanderbijlpark police spokesperson Sabelo Siqcu, officers were called to Johan Heyns Hospital, where the child was declared dead. Witnesses reported that the child had eaten Simba snacks before experiencing severe stomach cramps. An inquest docket has been opened, with food poisoning suspected. Community leaders have acknowledged the incident but urged caution until investigations confirm the source of the snacks. The tragedy has reignited debates on the regulation of township businesses, particularly regarding expired stock from wholesalers. Authorities urge residents to report concerns about unsafe food products.
