Vaal Dam level drops even further below 40%

VAAL TRIANGLE - The latest data from the Department of Water and Sanitation has shown the levels of the Vaal Dam have dropped even further below 40%. Last week’s data shows the Vaal Dam stood at 39.5%, just below the 40% mark. However, latest data recorded on 14 October 2024 shows the Vaal Dam’s level stands at 37.8%. Compared to the same time last year, the dam, which supplies water to Gauteng, stood at a level of 77.5%. The dam is a crucial component of the Integrated Vaal River System (IVRS) and this significant decline has sparked concerns over the region’s water security. The department has advised Gauteng residents to exercise caution in their water usage. Rand Water has implemented Level 1 water restrictions in the area, with Emfuleni municipality urging consumers to conserve water due to low storage levels and excessive water withdrawals by Gauteng municipalities.
