SHARPEVILLE - The South African Police Services disposed of confiscated liquor at the Leeukuil Water Treatment in Sharpeville, in the Vaal Triangle, this past Friday, 26 July. Deputy District Commissioner of Sedibeng District SAPS, Brigadier Mbangwa Nkhwashu says confiscated liquor from all 14 South African Police Stations in the district was destroyed. The operational objective is to prevent and combat crime. According to Nkhwashu, the liquor was confiscated from outlets operating illegally, with some purchased from non-compliant institutions. Seized under the Liquor Act of Gauteng, the liquor was processed through the courts before it was disposed of by the SAPS. Nkhwashu reported that more than 17,000 liters of liquor were disposed of. He urged communities to enforce compliance with the Liquor Act, highlighting the detrimental effects of illegal liquor sales. The MMC of Community Safety in Sedibeng, Busang Tsotetsi, emphasized the need to curb illegal liquor trading and address its role in exacerbating gender-based violence and underage drinking.
