VEREENIGING - An 18-year-old from Orange Farm has appeared before the Vereeniging Magistrates’ Court on a murder charge for allegedly poisoning his three-year-old brother. According to the National Prosecuting Authority, the children's mother began searching for her youngest son last Friday when he failed to return home. The tragic discovery was made by another sibling, who saw the accused placing the toddler’s body in a dustbin while herding goats nearby. NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane stated that the accused allegedly poisoned his younger brother on January 31, 2025, before disposing of his body. A day later, he surrendered to the police and reportedly confessed to the crime. The case was heard on Wednesday and has been postponed to next week for a formal bail application. Authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
