VANDERBIJLPARK - The North-West University (NWU) says its new solar carport plant aims to address loadshedding challenges and reduce the institution’s carbon footprint. The plant at the Vanderbijlpark Campus features 696 solar panels with a peak capacity of 382 kilowatts and is expected to generate 505 megawatt-hours per year. Deputy vice-chancellor for Planning, professor Linda du Plessis, says solar energy is becoming increasingly popular due to its efficiency and environmentally friendly nature.
