SEDIBENG - Gauteng’s Finance and Economic Development MEC, Lebogang Maile announced that a new airport is set to be developed in the Sedibeng District, Vaal Triangle, as part of a massive R200-billion infrastructure investment. Maile said the project aims to boost connectivity, stimulate economic growth, and create significant employment opportunities. American Citibank is a leading partner in the project, which is estimated to cost R200-billion rand. The airport forms part of broader infrastructure expansion plans, including the extension of the Gautrain network and a high-speed rail link between Gauteng and Limpopo. The Gautrain expansion alone is projected to generate over 10-million jobs in construction over five years. Details regarding the airport's timeline are yet to be disclosed. However, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has emphasized the province's commitment to positioning itself as South Africa's primary economic hub by accelerating transport and infrastructure investments.
