Meyerton police officers face disciplinary action after suspects escape by ‘turning into cats’

MEYERTON - The Meyerton SAPS is taking disciplinary action against some of it’s members following an incident where two suspects escaped from custody, last week Tuesday, July 16. Caxton Network News reports, according to a leaked statement sent to Gauteng police commissioner Tommy Mthombeni, two suspects reportedly escaped from Meyerton police custody by "turning into cats". The incident occurred on Tuesday when 11 individuals were arrested for possession of hijacked goods. While being processed, brothers Mustafa Ali and Omari Mustafa allegedly disappeared from their cell. A fellow suspect claims to have witnessed the strange transformation, stating the brothers made "owl noises" before changing into felines and escaping through a locked gate. The witness was willing to provide a formal statement. A docket of escape from lawful custody was opened and Police are investigating the unusual circumstances surrounding the escape. Gauteng police spokesperson Noxolo Kweza confirmed that Omari Mustafa has since been re-arrested, while his brother remains at large. Disciplinary action is being taken against officers involved in the incident. Authorities urge anyone with information about the missing suspect to contact their local police station or the toll-free number 08600 10111.
