SASOLBURG - The Metsimaholo Local Municipality in Sasolburg has a new Executive Mayor as of last week Wednesday, 16 August. Municipal spokesperson, Gino Alberts, said in a statement that Councillor Jack Malindi from the African Independent Congress (AIC) was elected unopposed during a special council sitting at the Harry Gwala Multipurpose Centre in Zamdela, Sasolburg. Alberts said his nomination as the Mayor was put forward by the African Transformation Movement (ATM) and was also seconded by the African National Congress (ANC). According to Alberts, all the political parties that are represented in council were present during the special sitting. Malindi replaces the Democratic Alliance’s councillor Jeff Zwane who was ousted during a recent motion of no confidence. rThis comes after the DA earlier accused the ANC/ EFF in Metsimaholo of the support of a multi-million rand looting scheme. The party says the ANC/EFF brought the motion of no confidence to remove Zwane because he moved to stop further payments to a Trust to which the Municipality does not owe money.
