VAAL TRIANGLE - The Gauteng MEC for Education, Matome Chiloane, has vowed to increase police visibility around vulnerable schools in the province. Chiloane spoke at the final School Safety Imbizo at the Ratanda Multi-Purpose Hall, Sedibeng, Vaal Triangle, over the weekend. It is a platform on which parents, learners, education activists and police share ideas on how best to improve safety in schools. Many schools have continued to face serious challenges including increased violence, bullying, gangsterism, substance abuse and theft. Chiloane called on the police to station their vans at more than 70 schools in the morning and afternoon. Chiloane says the presence of police vans will help prevent criminal activity and ensure learners’ safety. He believes vulnerable schools should also get dogs.
