Joint operation in Vaal River leads to arrest amid rising crime

VEREENIGING - The SAPS arrested a suspect, linked to over 26 armed robberies since April in a joint operation on Thursday, 28 November 2024, in Vaal River City. The operation, led by Vereeniging SAPS and supported by units including Sedibeng K9, DPCI, and private security teams, was initiated following incidents of violent crime, including the murder and attempted murder of two police officers. Surveillance targeted the high-crime route along Mario Milani Drive and surrounding areas. During the operation, officers responded to screams from nearby bushes, interrupting a robbery attempt on a woman and her three children. The suspect, a foreign national, was arrested and charged with armed robbery, illegal firearm possession, and immigration violations. Station Commander Brigadier Sibongile Ndaba commended the collaborative efforts and urged the public to stay vigilant. Police continue searching for remaining suspects and call for community assistance to restore safety in the area.
