Evaton Police arrest Uber driver in Connection with fatal hijacking

EVATON - The Evaton SAPS is investigating the fatal shooting and hijacking of a 58-year-old man in Palm Springs Section C. The victim was attacked on his way to church on Thursday, 23 January, when a black Hyundai intercepted his white Hyundai Accent. Unidentified suspects shot him in the chest before fleeing with the victim’s vehicle. He later succumbed to his injuries at Levai Mbatha Clinic. On Saturday, 25 January, community members tracked down a black Hyundai operating as an Uber and detained the driver and another suspect. Evaton police, K9 Sedibeng, and Crime Prevention units responded, finding the hijacked car’s key in the Uber. The suspects led police to the victim’s car in Lawley Extension 2. The Uber driver was arrested, while authorities are searching for the alleged shooter, Sphiwe Bethuel Ngubane.
