Emfuleni refutes fire station closure claims and slams VBC for spreading misinformation

VANDERBIJLPARK - The Emfuleni Local Municipality says in a statement it strongly refutes allegations that the Vanderbijlpark Fire Station has been closed. On Wednesday, April 16, claims of the station's closure circulated on social media, allegedly spread by the Vaal Business Cooperation. The municipality accuses VBS of deliberately misleading the public and damaging its reputation. Emfuleni clarified that the fire department remains operational, with four fire engines, two currently undergoing scheduled maintenance. To maintain service delivery and improve emergency response times, a fire engine has been temporarily stationed at the centrally located old Sebokeng Fire Station, serving Vanderbijlpark, Vereeniging, and Evaton. The municipality emphasized that this temporary relocation of resources does not signal the closure of the Vanderbijlpark station. It further explained that Evaton is prioritized due to its high number of fire-related incidents. Emfuleni urges the VBC to refrain from spreading disinformation and invites them to engage directly for accurate information.
