VANDERBIJLPARK - Emfuleni Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Councillor Sipho Radebe, has survived a motion of no confidence, retaining his position after a special council vote. Out of 89 councillors present, 40 supported his removal, while 49 voted against it, securing his leadership. The motion, brought forward by the DA, cited financial mismanagement, worsening service delivery, and failing infrastructure. Opposition parties argued that under Radebe, Emfuleni has faced ongoing water and electricity crises, rising debt, and administrative inefficiencies. However, the ruling coalition stood by him, ensuring his continued tenure. Council Speaker Sibongile Soxuza confirmed the results, reflecting deep political divisions within the municipality. As tensions persist, residents remain hopeful that the leadership will shift focus toward improving service delivery and addressing financial challenges in the coming months.
