VAAL TRIANGLE - Education activist Hendrick Makaneta has urged Basic Education minister Siviwe Gwarube to clarify whether parental or guardian consent is required for publishing matric results under the Protection of Personal Information Act. The Department of Basic Education plans to release results using exam numbers to protect learners’ privacy. However, Makaneta suggests issuing consent forms to ensure transparency and legal compliance.
Meanwhile, Minister of Basic Education, Siviwe Gwarube, has reaffirmed the department’s commitment to ensuring fair and safe matric exams as the marking process begins. Over 50,000 markers began grading at 181 centres nationwide yesterday. Gwarube told the media despite challenges like protests and flooding, the exams went smoothly, with minimal irregularities.
