DA slams Emfuleni speaker’s R600 000 soccer tournament amid service delivery crisis

VAAL TRIANGLE - DA has condemned Emfuleni Council speaker Sibongile Soxuza for spending over R600,000 on soccer tournaments while service delivery collapses. The DA’s Kingsol Chabalala says residents suffer due to poor leadership and financial mismanagement. It was revealed that the speaker’s office used public funds over three years, despite receiving donated prizes. According to MEC Mamabolo, the Speaker’s Office has spent R606 377.50 hosting soccer tournaments over the last three years. Of this amount, R298 377.50 was spent in 2022, R161 000 in 2023, and R147 000 in 2024. Chabalala argues that the funds should have improved local sports infrastructure instead of temporary events.
