DA says not one contact number of Metsimaholo Municipality is working

SASOLBURG - The DA in Metsimaholo says the ANC and EFF's most basic service delivery of communication cannot even be rendered. Metsimaholo Ward Councillor, Jacques Barnard, yesterday said in a statement that residents of Metsimaholo, which includes areas like Sasolburg, Deneysville and Vaalpark, are unable to contact any department in the municipality to report issues or request information. Barnard said this also affects emergency services, forcing councillors and residents to drive to report a burst pipe after hours. He said on June 13, he personally contacted the Municipal Manager to report this issue and requested at least a public notice, but this did not materialize. Barnard said the DA engaged the Executive Mayor on 24 June 2024 regarding the issue, and he was completely unaware of the problem. The mayor sent out a message to all councillors stating he was aware of the problem and would provide feedback shortly. Barnard said a public notice was issued at 18:40, informing the public that the lines had been restored but that there were challenges with the Telkom mobile app and landlines. Barnard says he immediately called the office of the Mayor and worked his way down, but not one number was working. Barnard said the DA is committed to holding the current administration to account and conducting oversight, no matter the time of day.
