Counselling services provided for Bophelong Secondary school after educator dies on school premises

VANDERBIJLPARK - Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane says he is devastated by an incident that took place on Thursday, 18 April, where a mathematics teacher from Bophelong Secondary School in Vanderbijpark allegedly collapsed on school premises and passed away. It is alleged that Mr. Mahlaba reported to work on Thursday morning but failed to attend the staff meeting. The school’s administrator allegedly found the teacher laying down next to his car. Emergency services were contacted for assistance, but unfortunately, Mr. Mahlaba was declared dead upon their arrival. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident. According to heartfelt messages on social media, Mr. Mahlaba was known for his skill in teaching and his dedication to his job. According to Chiloane, a psycho-social support team will be extending counselling services to all staff and learners who may be affected by this unfortunate incident.
