VANDERBIJLPARK - Today marks 92 days since two-year-old Kutlwano Shalaba of Boipatong, Vaal, went missing. The investigation into his disappearance continues as his mother, Keneiwe Shalaba, appeared in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for her third day of a bail application. Shalaba’s charges include child trafficking, conspiracy, and providing false information to authorities. Initially, Shalaba abandoned her bail application, but in February 2025, she shocked the courtroom by revealing she is pregnant with twins. Her defense argued for her release, citing her pregnancy, while prosecutors strongly opposed bail, labeling her a flight risk and stressing that there is still no trace of Kutlwano. Investigating officer Sgt. George Motloung revealed shocking new details, including claims that Shalaba attempted to involve others in fabricating a story after reporting her child missing. The state alleges that Shalaba sold her son in November and later fabricated a kidnapping story. Motloung testified that a substantial deposit of R75,000 was made to her account just before the kidnapping report was filed. The case has been postponed to today as the investigation progresses, with the state presenting further evidence of Shalaba's involvement in a conspiracy to commit a crime.
