SEDIBENG - The SAPS in the Sedibeng District arrested a total of 79 suspects during Operation Shanela, a large-scale crime-fighting initiative conducted over the weekend. Led by Sebokeng SAPS on 22 March 2025, the operation involved multiple law enforcement agencies and community stakeholders. Officers carried out roadblocks, searched 480 individuals and 229 vehicles, and inspected 10 liquor establishments, shutting down two for operating without licenses. 13 Suspects were arrested for the possession of drugs and driving under the influence, while a pre-operation crackdown on 21 March led to the arrest of 65 suspects for serious crimes such as gender-based violence, robbery, and attempted murder. Sedibeng District Commissioner, Major General Nkhensani Mukwevho, assured residents of continued crime-fighting efforts. Police spokesperson, Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane, also urged the community to report suspicious activities.
